Version 4.0 – May 18, 2021:
In May 2021 and after months of development, Modulo Kinetic makes a major step forward with the release of the version 4. As the biggest release ever, Modulo Kinetic V4 comes with a revamped user interface, a variety of new features, and fixes.
Some of the new features are specific to virtual and hybrid events. In the context of the Covid-19 and resulting constraints on live events, the demand for virtual productions with Extended Reality (XR), and Augmented Reality (AR) has grown quickly. In our effort to make virtual productions accessible to our clients and users, Modulo Kinetic… featured at the end of this post.
We’re happy to highlight some of the new features and enhancements brought by Modulo Kinetic V4 below.

A new look and feel
The Modulo Kinetic Designer user interface was revamped to offer a polished experience with the software.
The four themes – white, light grey, dark grey, black – were updated with new icons, colors, and optimized views, toolbars, timelines, Graph Editor, and more. Special attention was paid to the 3D scene viewer for a greatly improved navigation.
An enhanced study pipeline
The show study and simulation tools in Modulo Kinetic V4 are significantly improved.
The large video-projectors database now reaches +680 references.
Video-projectors can be easily imported into Modulo Kinetic Designer from a csv file.
A new clone and symmetry tool allows much faster and simplified video-projectors distribution in your 3D scenes.
Easily create a perfect study documentation for your client.
Add measures and annotations to your 3D scenes, and effortlessly export any view and information required: 3D view snapshots, lux and pixel density views with captions, pdf list of video-projectors with their information…
An improved 3D engine
Our 3D engine keeps on evolving and now offers higher performance and reliability.
Modulo Kinetic now supports spotlight and pointlight shadows.
In addition, it is now possible to render camera, projector, or mesh instance in a timeline layer with post-process Reflection, Ambient Occlusion (SSAO), Depth of Field (DOF), Glow and advanced Antialiasing.
Media and Compositing
Modulo Kinetic V4 adds support of Notch Block, HAP R, 10-bit Apple ProRes, and 10-bit GoPro Cineform.
With the support of LUT format .cube, creative filters and real-time color grading are now available in Modulo Kinetic Designer.
A new audio engine and new audio matrix editor deliver improved performance and ability to play a large number of audio channels.
It is also possible to easily create audio reactive effects using FFT and level from external audio input or virtual channel.
New devices supported
Modulo Kinetic now supports advanced WebSocket protocol.
Based on this communication protocol, it is now possible to create custom web applications that will interact with your project in Modulo Kinetic.
Using custom web applications on phones, touch screens, or any other computing devices, an audience can trigger tasks and interact with media, light, and audio of a Modulo Kinetic show.
A focus on XR
To make production of virtual and hybrid events significantly simplified and accessible, Modulo Kinetic V4 comes with a series of new capabilities, compatible with green screen and LED screen configurations:
- FreeD protocol support
- Stype protocol support
- Integrated FreeD calibration file for the Panasonic AW-UE100 and AW-UE150 PTZ cameras
- Pose calibration and intrinsic calibration of a fixed camera
- Multi-zoom camera calibration (intrinsic, nodal, and pose estimation)
- Support of SteamVR tracker
- Overscan function for camera and video-projector in 3D scenes
To support your productions on green screens, the chroma keyer embedded in Modulo Kinetic has been significantly improved. It also comes with a new editor to proceed to settings and fine-tuning with ease.
