Creating the show

Launch Kinetic Designer.

From the Home Page, create a new show by clicking on New.

Name it Start Project v1 and save it inside the ../01_SHOW/ subfolder created on the previous step.

VNode

Kinetic Designer is designed to control V-Node media servers.

In the V-Nodes panel click the button to add a V-Node to the project.

Rename it VN01 and assign it the color red.

At this point, the V-Node does not know which content it will receive and play and has no render surface to output.

Render Surface

In the Render Surfaces panel click the button to add a render surface.

Rename it RS-VN01 and assign it the color red.

The default size for a render surface is 1920×1080. Since this is exactly the size of our media and we’ll be using only one output, keep it this way.

In the V-Nodes panel, select the VN01 and in the Editor Panel set the Surface to RS-VN01

Tips

It is good practice to end your show’s name with a version number.

You can use the Save Show + function to easily save incremental versions of your show.

It is good practice to always attribute clear names to your Show, V-Nodes, Render Surfaces, Tasks, Variables etc.

It makes the setup more clear for everyone, including yourself.

It is also good practice to use the color wheels to color-code your shows.

This will help you keep a clear view on larger setups.
