Create the project folder
Before launching Kinetic Designer, create a dedicated project folder in Windows Explorer for the project files and all it’s content.
When importing media into your project, Kinetic Designer uses relative filepaths to point to the media’s location on the hard drive.
For this reason we recommend to use a dedicated project folder in Windows for every project and include all media associated with the project inside this project folder.
If you are using a Kinetic Designer server
On a Kinetic Designer server we store our projects on the D:/ drive which uses a dedicated SSD RAID assembly for extra-fast read speeds.
Go inside the D:/ drive and create a new folder named Start Project.
If you are using your own computer
You may or may not have a D:/ drive
Go inside the drive of your choice and create a Kinetic Project folder to hold the project folders of these tutorials (and of your future shows).
Inside this folder, create a project folder for this tutorial and name it Start Project.
Project folder hierarchy
We recommend the following folder hierarchy to keep your project folders properly organized and easier to backup:
- 01_SHOW : this folder holds the show files (.mop) and all associated folders/files that Kinetic Designer automatically creates
- 02_MEDIA : this folder holds all the media content for your project
- 03_3D : this folder holds 3D files if your project has any
Optional additional folders you can create depending on your project’s requirements: - 04_SCRIPTS
- 05_LUTS
- etc.
Place the media from the Media Kit inside the subfolder ../02_MEDIA/
