We will now see how to use a Photoshop PSD file to automatically create X-Maps.

Create an Output using a PSD file

Select the the previously created Output and delete it.

In the V-Nodes panel, Output tab click and select Import from PSD.

A pop-up window appears listing all the PSD files detected in the Media List

Select the X-Map – Cube PSD file from the list.

The Photoshop files respect a specific nomenclature to be understood and imported in Kinetic Designer.
For more information, refer to the guidelines for PSD creation or the X-Map manual page.

The Output is automatically created in X-Map mode with the 3 X-Maps contained in the PSD file.

Set the Curve type of all 3 X-Maps to Keystone.

Right click on the output and select Display on second screen.

Warp the 3 cube sides with each X-Map.

Now add a video on the timeline and play it, it should be well set on the three cube sides.

Notes on mask

You may note that the X-Map’s corners do not align with the corners of the cube’s face as they did when we set them by hand in the previous method.

This is because there is a mask applied in the photoshop file.

To visualize these masks, select an X-Map in the V-Nodes panel and in Editor panel, under the X-Map tab, Advanced subtab select the Mask tab.

This is also where you can toggle these masks on/off.

Test toggling one of the masks Off to understand the resulting modification in the MAP.
